A leading private security company based in South Africa is seeking an Area Manager for the Guarding Division in the West Rand. The successful candidate will oversee the day-to-day operations of the division, manage client relationships, ensure compliance with company policies, and supervise security personnel to ensure effective security services are provided. As the Area Manager, you will be responsible for managing all aspects of security operations in your designated area. Your role will require effective leadership, client management, incident handling, risk assessments, and ensuring compliance with all contractual and legal requirements. You will also oversee manpower, equipment management, and ensure the safety and security of both clients and security personnel.
- Conduct threat and risk assessments for various sites to identify vulnerabilities.
- Build and maintain professional client relationships through regular communication and proactive service.
- Manage manpower effectively, ensuring that staffing levels and rosters are maintained.
- Oversee equipment management, ensuring that all security tools are in good working order.
- Address and resolve client complaints swiftly and professionally.
- Ensure that contractual requirements are met consistently and on time.
- Incident management: Oversee investigations into incidents, ensuring thorough documentation and resolution.
- Ensure adherence to the company’s disciplinary code, including initiating and chairing disciplinary hearings.
- Ensure compliance with all SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures).
- Manage health and safety compliance for all staff and clients.
- Act as a point of contact for security officer issues and ensure problems are resolved promptly.
- Follow BPC (Business Process Compliance) policies and procedures at all times.
- Conduct after-hours visits to monitor operations and client satisfaction.
- Complete daily, weekly, and monthly reports on operational activities.
- Training management: Ensure staff are trained as necessary to maintain service standards.
- Assist with shift changes as a standby manager when required.
- Be available to attend urgent meetings and handle calls outside of regular working hours.
- Demonstrate extensive knowledge of good security practices and ensure the confidentiality and integrity of information.
| Required Skills and Qualifications |
- PSIRA Certification – Grade A (compulsory).
- Grade 12 or equivalent qualification.
- Firearm competency and a valid Regulation 21 certificate is an advantage.
- At least 3-5 years’ experience in a managerial or similar position within the security industry.
- Knowledge of risk management techniques, business impact analysis, and countermeasures for IT-related disruptions.
- Understanding of access security control systems and their function in preventing unauthorized access.
- Strong public speaking and client interaction skills.
- Bilingual (English and any other South African language).
- Ability to work under pressure and make critical decisions in emergency situations.
- First aid and firefighting training will be advantageous.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proficient in MS Office and basic computer literacy.
- Must be willing to undergo a polygraph test.
- Clean disciplinary, criminal, and credit record.
- Own reliable transport and a driver’s license (Code 8) is mandatory.
- Experience in the Guarding Division or similar roles within the private security industry.
- Knowledge of security risk assessment tools and techniques.
- Proven experience in managing client relationships within the security sector.
- Ability to lead teams effectively, ensuring productivity and morale.
- Previous experience in managing after-hours operations and emergency response.
- First aid and firefighting certification would be advantageous for safety management.
