A leading diversified financial services group listed on the JSE is seeking an Information Security Officer to join their Infrastructure and Operations department. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing the company's information security vision, strategy, governance, management, processes, and user education. As the Information Security Officer, you will be responsible for creating and executing the company’s information security strategy. Your duties will include managing security governance, mitigating risks, auditing existing systems, and continuously improving security processes. You will work closely with internal teams and external vendors to ensure that the company’s information systems are protected against potential threats, and that security standards are maintained across all platforms.
- Oversee the protection of information systems and ensure company-wide security measures are maintained.
- Evaluate, report on, and propose solutions to mitigate security threats.
- Develop, implement, and maintain security strategies to safeguard the company’s information assets.
- Lead administrative security policies, offering guidance and leadership in their enforcement.
- Conduct regular audits of current systems and implement new security standards where necessary.
- Stay informed about the latest developments in cybersecurity technologies and IT security innovations.
- Design and implement a robust IT security strategy to address current and emerging threats.
- Manage IT security operations, ensuring that systems are continually protected against vulnerabilities.
- Develop and deploy a cloud-centric cybersecurity model to enhance the company's security posture.
- Perform IT Security Risk Assessments and suggest actions to mitigate risks.
- Monitor and respond to IT security vulnerabilities, including threats to network and host systems.
- Implement effective reporting mechanisms for security incidents and breaches.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for security compliance, ensuring all data and services remain protected throughout their lifecycle.
- Review vendor requests and conduct thorough cybersecurity risk assessments for third-party providers.
- Respond to and manage audits related to data security and compliance.
- Collaborate with IT departments to meet the strategic requirements of information security.
- Ensure the protection of electronic data throughout its processing and storage lifecycle.
- Establish and maintain an enterprise information security and risk management program.
- Work closely with business units to facilitate risk assessment and risk management processes.
- Continuously enhance the information security management framework to meet evolving threats.
- Ensure the implementation of appropriate security governance practices.
- Proactively monitor, identify, investigate, and resolve security incidents and related issues.
| Required Skills and Qualifications |
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Security, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Relevant certification(s) preferred (e.g., CIPP, CIPM, CISSP, CISM).
- 5-7 years of experience in information technology security and security principles.
- Extensive experience in assessing, monitoring, and managing security risks.
- Experience with risk management and governance solutions.
- Proven ability to manage security compliance and vendor relations, including contract negotiations and managing managed services.
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills, with the ability to communicate complex security concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Excellent judgment and decision-making abilities.
- Strong communication and organizational skills (both written and verbal).
- High personal integrity and ethical standards in managing sensitive information.
- Strong architectural design skills and understanding of security system design.
- Problem-solving ability, particularly when dealing with security incidents.
