As the Senior Data Operations Engineer, you will assume technical and operational responsibilities currently managed by the CIO. You will modernize SQL-based and data warehouse processes, ensure data quality and integration across business systems, and act as the primary technical escalation point for data-related issues. This role requires a balance of hands-on technical expertise and collaboration with analysts, developers, and business units, with a clear growth path into senior leadership positions within data operations.
- Modernize legacy technical processes across SQL, data extraction, and system integration to drive automation, scalability, and documentation.
- Maintain and optimize SQL routines, stored procedures, and extract logic for operational and reporting purposes.
- Act as the Data Custodian for critical business domains, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and controlled access.
- Oversee and improve data extracts for both internal business functions and reporting.
- Ensure effective integration between source systems and the data warehouse, with focus on performance, quality, and maintainability.
- Support and expand the company’s evolving data warehouse, including the transition to Microsoft Fabric and star schema best practices.
- Identify operational inefficiencies and implement process improvements, automation, and controls to reduce risk and dependency.
- Collaborate with data champions, analysts, and business units to resolve data issues at source and align processes.
- Document technical processes and ensure knowledge transfer for risk mitigation and succession planning.
- Serve as the technical escalation point for complex SQL/data issues in production.
| Required Skills and Qualifications |
- Strong experience in SQL Server and data operations.
- Proficiency in managing and optimizing SQL-based systems, data extraction, and integration processes.
- Solid understanding of data warehousing principles, including star schema design.
- Experience with automation, process optimization, and system scalability.
- Experience with Microsoft Fabric is an advantage.
- Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookup functions, Power Query, and data reconciliation.
- Proven experience in business rule documentation and data quality validation.
- Previous experience in the insurance industry is a plus.
- Strong collaboration skills, able to work closely with analysts, developers, and business stakeholders.
